What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
If you are experiencing premature hair loss or thinning hair, our team can help reverse this common sign of age with a revolutionary hair restoration technique called Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy. PRP Therapy is an innovative hair restoration procedure that employs your body’s own platelet blood cells. By injecting these cells into the target area, dormant hair follicles can become reactivated, providing you with a fuller head of hair.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy work?
PRP, a technique that has been successfully used for many years in other cosmetic procedures such as facial rejuvenation, works by isolating the platelet-rich plasma of the blood and reintroducing it to the target site. This technique, which has been used in the past to repair and regenerate cells, can now be used to target and reactivate dormant hair follicles.
What are the benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Hair loss is a frequently expressed cosmetic concern among our patients at KMP Aesthetics. In our society, a full head of hair is typically associated with energy, vigor, strength, and youth. For patients who are experiencing premature hair loss or thinning hair, PRP can reactivate hair follicles that have become inactive. Many patients will see the regrowth of their normal, natural hair pattern as well as notice a thickening of the hair. As a minimally invasive procedure, PRP offers the benefit of hair restoration with a relatively short recovery period.
What is a typical procedure like?
Your PRP treatment will begin with the extraction of a small amount of blood in order to separate and isolate your platelet blood cells. These isolated cells are then prepared to be injected at the target site. The next step of your PRP treatment is a micro-needling procedure, which uses a handheld device called the SkinPen® to further stimulate areas of the scalp that are thinning or balding. To enhance your comfort, lidocaine will be injected into the scalp before the procedure begins.
Who is a candidate for Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Ideal candidates for PRP will have hair follicles that are dormant and can benefit from reactivation. PRP is designed to simulate healthy but inactive hair follicles, patients with no hair follicles at the target site will not benefit from this treatment. During the consultation process, your scalp will be evaluated, needs and expectations will be discussed, and your candidacy will be determined for this hair restoration procedure.
How long before I notice my Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy results?
The recovery period for PRP is typically very brief. Some patients may experience a sensation similar to a mild sunburn in the days immediately following treatment. As your dormant hair follicles react to the plasma injections and begin to function properly again, you can see your normal hair pattern return and gradually have your hair restored. Some of our patients opt to undergo multiple PRP treatment sessions to optimize their results.
